Yun and Yang are relatives of Lee, a character who appears in the original Street Fighter.[1] The twins were orphaned as children and raised by their grandfather, who trained the boys in the art of Kung Fu. The restaurant that they work in belongs to their grandfather. Between the two brothers, Yun is the more confident, outgoing one, while Yang is the quiet, brooding one. Yun enjoys skateboarding, while Yang prefers in-line skating. The twins have a crush on a girl named Houmei, but Houmei likes Yun. However, Houmei has a younger sister named Shaomei who has a crush on Yang.
In the original version of Street Fighter III, Yun and Yang share the same frame in the character selection screen. Yun is the default character, selected with any punch buttons, while Yang is selectable by pressing any of the kick buttons, essentially making Yang an alternate design for Yun. In Street Fighter III: 2nd Impact, Yang was made into a separately selectable character and his playing style began to deviate from Yun in this installment. This was carried on in Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike.
